ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY AWARD (October 2013)
Co-founder Nigel Bennett recognized by the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC) for cleaning up oil spills for 30 years. A graduate of BCIT's Mechanical Technology program, Nigel joined ASTTBC in 1986 and spent the first decade of his professional career in oil spill response planning. In 1992, he formed Aqua-Guard Spill response to design, manufacture and distribute equipment and services for marine and industrial spills. The company has worked on every major spill from the Exxon Valdez to the BP Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Headquartered in Vancouver, Aqua-Guard now serves 3,000 clients in 104 countries.
